The village show takes place on
the first Saturday in August and alternates between the Village
Hall in South Milton and the Parish Hall in Thurlestone (August 6 this
year in South Milton). There are classes for fruit and veg, cut flowers
and potted plants, handicrafts, art, photos and children's entries.
Most of the classes are only open to residents of the parishes of South
Milton, Thurlestone and West Buckland, their children and grandchildren
and pupils at Thurlestone school, but some sections, such as the flower
arranging, are open to all comers.
The show is great fun, you can
enter one class or 50 if you have the desire and the time! There
are cups for the winner of some single classes, novice cups and
silverware for the South Milton and Thurlestone residents who amass the
most points across all the sections.
The
annual show was restarted in 1979. Did you enter that first
show? Did you win any prizes? Please let us know.
The show is organised by a committee made up of about a dozen residents
from all the parishes. The planning for the year's show begins in
January when the schedule of classes is put together. The
schedule is usually first released at the plant sale held in May.
If you are interested in in
being involved with running the show, or have ideas for classes please
