House plan turned down
The importance of South Milton's emerging Neighbourhood Plan was acknowledged when South Hams District Council's development management (aka planning) committee met on Wednesday (Feb 7) to hear an application for a new house on the site of Skerries, opposite Links Court apartments.
The plan is at the independent examination stage before being returned to the parish ahead of a referendum in the spring, so it is therefore not yet a document to which the committee needs to give full weight.
However, the plan's housing policy and landscape policy for the next 15 years clearly lays out what the parish expects from developers, and this appears to have been endorsed by the development management committee when it voted 8-1 against the Skerries application as the developer’s proposal took little account of the our NP policies, despite recommended conditional approval by the case officer.
Anyone considering a new build in the parish is advised to study the NP and discuss their proposed development with the parish council first.
Committee members had held a site meeting at the property earlier in the week, which was attended by members of the parish council, the NP steering group and a number of concerned residents.
