Coffee Break is the ideal way to catch up with your friends,
or to introduce yourself if you have just moved here. It was founded in
1999, at the instigation of Mary Ewings, after
the closure of the village shop where the local gossip was usually disseminated!
And on October 21, 2009, the late Mary Ewings' daughter Elizabeth cut a cake as
30 people celebrated the tenth anniversary of the weekly get-together.
Every Wednesday morning the village hall is
open from 10.30 to noon for refreshments, so come along and say 'Hello'.
Coffee Break
has been able, through voluntary donations, to purchase a Shelter Box, which has
been sent to Haiti which lost so much in the earthquake that destroyed
Port-au-Prince and much else in January. The group, which has met weekly
since the village shop closed more than 10 years ago, is very grateful for the
continuing support of those who attend regularly or occasionally. 'The social
contact means much to many who live on their own,'
says organiser Jan Turner. 'Mary Ewings, our founder,
would be delighted.'
